Behind The Scent: Rouge Sarây

Rouge Sarây was born from our founder Jean-Philippe Clermont's many years of experience in the Middle East, and his passion for the region's history and culture. The fragrance evokes the generous hospitality and rich imagination of the cradle of these ancient civilizations.

This new fragrance brings to life the ancient trade routes that crisscrossed the arid desert of the Arabian Peninsula. Arabia Deserta, as Ancient Rome called it. These vast expanses of ochre and golden sand, even larger than our imaginations.

Many French writers, poets, and adventurers have ventured to the far reaches of the Middle East. Gary, Londres, Malraux, Nerval, Lamartine, and even Rimbaud... Their stories and romantic adventures still populate and enchant our memories.

Why did we name this fragrance “Rouge Sarây”?

Red like the sand dunes of Wadi Rum (Jordan) caressed by the setting sun.
Red like the ochre color of the rock of the temple of Petra, capital of the Nabataeans which was at the confluence of all the trade routes, including those of spices, incense and myrrh.
Red like the passion, hospitality, and warmth of the Middle East.
Red like the amber color of the date, fruit of the sands, and symbol of hospitality, wealth and abundance.

Rouge Sarây tells us about these adventures on the incense route. This moment of rest, after days of traveling in these shifting dunes, in a caravanserai (from the Iranian “serai” meaning: Palace). An oasis of sweetness and a welcoming haven. Rouge Sarây translates the romantic imagination of the fables and adventure stories of the ancient trade routes that crisscrossed the Middle East. From this era and these daring journeys across the desert, we still preserve today as witnesses and vestiges the use of spices and perfume.

Considered a symbol of abundance and hospitality, Rouge Sarây enhances the date and its fruity aromas. Its sweet, vanilla-y yet fleshy notes give it intensity and conviviality. A gourmand and romantic fragrance, Rouge Sarây is draped in sensual notes of sandalwood. Smoky Gaiac wood accords enhance this amber composition.

An intensely addictive fragrance that captures those exquisite moments of contemplation in the desert and brings to life that hospitable stopover in a caravanserai on the spice and incense route.
